Marriage for Him & Him or Her & Her

Yes, we do Same-Sex Weddings!

Here at Uniquely Wed, we believe that a marriage is created in words.  It is created in a powerful, amazing, bold promise.. not on a piece of paper.

Now, while the official document may be good for some reasons, it doesn’t matter in the most important one which is, “regardless of the paperwork, I promise to love you forever.”  That is the real magic of a wedding and the way a marriage really happens.  It has nothing to do with what the State of Texas thinks about it.  Promises are promised, it us up to us to keep them, right?

And I have to say that same-Sex weddings are some of my favorites to do.  Why?  Well because there is no true, legal reason, or partner-benefits style reason to do it!  It truly is a thing created by a promise and nothing more; no signature required.  Now I think that is cool and their weddings are often some of the most creative.

That said, after doing some searching, I have found a beautiful option if your ceremony feels like it would be incomplete without the signature; a marriage ketubah.  Having married an awesome man from an equally awesome, Jewish family, I have been priviledged to learn about the many beautiful Jewish tradition around marriage including the ketubah, also known as a wedding contract.  In Hebrew, ketubah mean “it is written.”  Isn’t that pretty?

Ketubah – Your own wedding contract!

A Ketubah is wedding contract but it is also a beautiful, art piece that is traditionally placed in a special place in your home after it is signed by the couple and witnesses on the day of the wedding.  There are great companies out there that will do same-sex ketubah’s so that you and your fiance can have the added experience of “signing on the dotted line” if you want it.  Isn’t that awesome?

And, as and added bonus, since it includes your vows, you can have a reminder of your vows in your home at all times.  This is mostly a good thing ;-)   I can tell you from experience, my husband and I have  used this as a means to diffuse an argument.  We take a minute, while feeling stuck to look at our vows, and it all seeems to get clearer.  Usually one or both of us ends up saying sometihng like, “oh, sorry I haven’t been doing promises 1-3 or 5 and 6..  Maybe I will just do those and all this will get better.”  It always works.

So remember, if you are planning your wedding and you happen to be the same gender as your spouse-to-be, don’t fret about your ceremony!  You can have it all!  And if you need some help, call us.  We are all about your wedding, your way no matter what.
